Custom Harley Sportster tank bib and fender bib set

This was a request from a lady down in Georgia with a killer Sportster 883 Lo (with the 1200 tank).
She was looking for a winged skull design but wanted to really accent the lines of the bike with a head turning style.

Both bibs were done in our original Chaos Pebbles Split Lane design with the winged skull laid out to have the wings slightly overlap the center bar to give it more visual depth.
A red accent stitch line and hand braided edges finish the custom bibs off with a splash of color.  Something new for us, the client measured out her bike and we make the Sportster fender bib fit from tail light bracket to seat bolt for full coverage, worked out nicely and is super secure!  below are pics of the Winged Skull Sportster custom tank & fender bib set.  I also added a couple of other Sportster custom bibs for more inspiration!

Custom tooled Harley leg guards

Been a few requests for these leather leg guards (heat shields) for the Harley Softail Heritage, Deluxe, Slim and Fatboy lately.
Pretty standard shape, I refined the curves a bit in version 2. The size and shape shape of these are great as they allow for a large handtooled design to personalize your Harley.

Most recently, a Facebook Softail group post by client Gail had made the floral design shields very popular.  I like to change each design slightly, different flowers, altering the petal and vines placement, etc. to make each one a bit unique.  And as always, the client has their input to make it theirs  For those aren’t into flowers, I can also make these Harley leg guards to match aftermarket seats like Mustang seats diamond stitch, LePera seats, Corbin seats and Saddlemen seat in matching materials.  A few examples of the matched pieces are below as well.

New custom leather toolbag design!

Here is a new style of custom leather motorcycle & bicycle tool bag I designed. This 4″ round x 12″ long bag is designed to be mounted on the handlebars or under the headlight or behind a spring seat.  The flip open flap exposes the zippered pocket, making it very weather resistant but easy to access.  They can be tooled, engraved and airbrushed for a unique style, check out the pics below!

So what is Chaos Pebbles?

One of my signature designs is the Chaos Pebbles ‘Split Lane’ tooling pattern.  Over the years it has become my most popular request; it is unique, interesting and definitely not ordinary.  Back in 2012, a client came to me and asked for a custom Honda fender bib that no one has seen before…he gave me full creative license as long as it was cool looking.  Over the course of the job I designed his bib and then developed a six step process so that each future bib would have a unique fingerprint-like background tooling.  No two bibs are exactly the same but matching sets including handlebar bags, tool bags, swingarm bags, tank & fender bibs as well as wallets and belts could all be done.

Since then, it’s been refined and I’ve added laser engraved center icons as well as hand tooled versions to allow folks to share their interests, hobbies, logos, and more; all set in a unique pattern.  Today, this is my most popular custom Harley fender bib design and with the addition of the colored accent stitch lines, it personalizes even further.  Add Chrome spots? No Problem!  I’ve laid them out to fit on the outside or down the center bar, we can even do black pyramid spots for those wanting a more aggressive look.

New Custom Harley tank bib style – Floral Corset!

This was a Christmas tank bib request from a client and has proved to be very popular with the lady riders that follow the Three Mutts Customs facebook and Instagram pages.
A solid leather core, overlaid with any number of colors, in this case light gray, and then topped with a hand tooled and braided leather corset piece.  In the photos, the tank bib is shown on a 2018 Harley Softail Deluxe but it can be made for any Harley and a number of imports.  The floral pattern was laid out to flow with the bib, other flowers like daisies, traditional Texas roses, etc. can be substituted.

Custom leather swingarm bags!

Over the last year, I spent quite a bit of time stepping up and improving the swingarm bag designs for Harley Softails.
Nearly all of the Softails, inlcuding the Breakout and Fatboy use the same mounting platform (except the cool Deluxe’s and Vicla’s with true dual exhaust) so most bags are about the same size and shape.  Earlier this year, I added a compact version to give two options on size.  The standard size is a good day trip bag and 4″ deep to allow for more gear.  The compact version tapers up a bit more at the rear to follow the swingarm angles tighter and is a touch less wide to allow for side mount license plates to be used with it.

All of the bags now feature a fabric lined interior to keep your goodies free of leather fuzz or dye rub off some other bags end up with.
New clasp options were added as well – we now offer traditional roller buckles, a nicer trunk style clasp and the newest addition – polished aluminum quick releases.
No more need to hide ugly black plastic quick releases behind faux buckles…let them shine and enjoy a new look at the same time.

As with everything we do, the Three Mutts Customs swingarm bags can be hand tooled or laser engraved saddler leather or we can material match to your aftermarket seat for a tight matched set.

Custom Harley Softail swingarm bag tan brass claps

2018 Harley model bibs are here!

I hadn’t realized that I’ve been away from the blog so long, as we’ve been working on the new website, Instagram and Facebook pages!
I’ve got a ton of updates to do along with all the new models of bikes, so stay tuned over the next few days!

To get the blog update rolling, why not feature some of the new bibs we’ve been building for the 2018 Harley-Davidson line up.
There were quite a few changes in 018, some minor and some major changes with only a few like the Touring models; Road King, Streetglide, RoadGlide, etc. staying the same bib wise.

In a coming post we’ll talk about some of the other new models including the Touring models, Softail Low Rider and others!

Softail Slim – This model got a whole new tank bib and a fender bib hole change.  The Harley tank bib features a bolt cut-out in the rear wings that I can’t figure out, so I modified the design to have a full wing and allowing braided edges to come all the way back to the seat.

Softail Deluxe/Heritage – Like the Softail Slim, these two iconic models picked up a new tank bib shape and fender bib hole placement change.

Fatboy – Big changes here, the 2018 Fatboy picked up a new metal dash piece in place of traditional tank bib and a fender bib hole placement change.
Fender bibs are designed and I’ve worked out a jig and am now starting to make leather replacements for the tank panel

“God of War – Kratos” 2018 Softail Deluxe bib set!

Pete, a client from the East Coast, and his son are avid God of War video game players and have been from the first game release.
He wanted to commemorate his favorite big screen champion and good times they shared playing with a custom leather bib set for his new 2018 Harley Softail Deluxe.
Ages ago I also played the game so I had a good grasp on who the character was and the symbolism used in the game.  We spent hours on the phone and email looking at screen captures, game boxes, and other references looking for the perfect image.  When it came down to it, what could more intimidating than Kratos himself staring you down from the rear fender?

The bibs are hand tooled Hermann Oak top grain leather with hand braided edges.  Both Kratos and the Dragon Omega rune were airbrushed with Createx Colors Wicked, Illustration and Candy2o colors and topped off with a satin clear to cut glare when Pete is showing this unholy set at bike night!
