Western and Floral themes for Harley accessories

With more and more women buying Harleys every year and taking to the road, I’ve seen an upswing in more feminine designs for the leather accessories.  This is great as they can be fun to tool and something you don’t always see at a bike show.  Done well, floral designs can really add a fun look to the bike.

For the guys, similar designs evoke a vintage or Western theme, adding some authenticity to a gunslinger style many like.

With so many styles of flowers, vinework, and then adding in other bits like guns, butterflies, crosses, or even skulls, you can really make your floral hand tooled leather Harley tank bibs, fender bibs, bags, and other accessories truly one of a kind.  We can alter existing designs or draw up something completely unique for your ride.

Custom tooled Harley leg guards

Been a few requests for these leather leg guards (heat shields) for the Harley Softail Heritage, Deluxe, Slim and Fatboy lately.
Pretty standard shape, I refined the curves a bit in version 2. The size and shape shape of these are great as they allow for a large handtooled design to personalize your Harley.

Most recently, a Facebook Softail group post by client Gail had made the floral design shields very popular.  I like to change each design slightly, different flowers, altering the petal and vines placement, etc. to make each one a bit unique.  And as always, the client has their input to make it theirs  For those aren’t into flowers, I can also make these Harley leg guards to match aftermarket seats like Mustang seats diamond stitch, LePera seats, Corbin seats and Saddlemen seat in matching materials.  A few examples of the matched pieces are below as well.

So what is Chaos Pebbles?

chaos-pebbles-1One of my signature designs is the Chaos Pebbles ‘Split Lane’ tooling pattern.  Over the years it has become my most popular request; it is unique, interesting and definitely not ordinary.  Back in 2012, a client came to me and asked for a custom Honda fender bib that no one has seen before…he gave me full creative license as long as it was cool looking.  Over the course of the job I designed his bib and then developed a six step process so that each future bib would have a unique fingerprint-like background tooling.  No two bibs are exactly the same but matching sets including handlebar bags, tool bags, swingarm bags, tank & fender bibs as well as wallets and belts could all be done.

Since then, it’s been refined and I’ve added laser engraved center icons as well as hand tooled versions to allow folks to share their interests, hobbies, logos, and more; all set in a unique pattern.  Today, this is my most popular custom Harley fender bib design and with the addition of the colored accent stitch lines, it personalizes even further.  Add Chrome spots? No Problem!  I’ve laid them out to fit on the outside or down the center bar, we can even do black pyramid spots for those wanting a more aggressive look.

Scroll down to see some of the newer, updated designs I’ve done on custom Harley fender bibs, tank bibs and bags in the Chaos Pebbles design.  Take a look and drop me a line when you’re ready to order your own custom Harley bib set!

Custom leather swingarm bags!

Posted in Harley Davidson, Harley Softail, Laser Engraving, Leatherwork, Motorcycles, Softail Slim, swingarm bags, Three Mutts Customs with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on December 21, 2018 by Chris Wright

Over the last year, I spent quite a bit of time stepping up and improving the swingarm bag designs for Harley Softails.
Nearly all of the Softails, inlcuding the Breakout and Fatboy use the same mounting platform (except the cool Deluxe’s and Vicla’s with true dual exhaust) so most bags are about the same size and shape.  Earlier this year, I added a compact version to give two options on size.  The standard size is a good day trip bag and 4″ deep to allow for more gear.  The compact version tapers up a bit more at the rear to follow the swingarm angles tighter and is a touch less wide to allow for side mount license plates to be used with it.

All of the bags now feature a fabric lined interior to keep your goodies free of leather fuzz or dye rub off some other bags end up with.
New clasp options were added as well – we now offer traditional roller buckles, a nicer trunk style clasp and the newest addition – polished aluminum quick releases.
No more need to hide ugly black plastic quick releases behind faux buckles…let them shine and enjoy a new look at the same time.

As with everything we do, the Three Mutts Customs swingarm bags can be hand tooled or laser engraved saddler leather or we can material match to your aftermarket seat for a tight matched set.

Check out the pictures below for inspiration and drop me a line with questions or ordering info.

Happy Holidays!

More about the new tank bib shape for the Softail Slim

Posted in Fender bibs, Softail Slim, Tank bib with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 3, 2017 by Chris Wright

I recently posted pics about the new tank bib shape I designed for the Harley Softail Slim, how about a bit more information?
The wide style tank bib was designed mainly to make more room for artwork.  The factory tank bib on the Softail Slim is dreadfully narrow so getting good detail or color into a design on it was quite a pain.  What I did was to simply mock up the factory shape on the computer and bump the sides out with a nice curve that flows from the dash but maintains all the factory mounting points.

The new bibs can have any of the options; laser engraving, hand tooled designs, embroidery, as well as diamond stitching to match up with aftermarket seats like LePera and Mustang.
I have also recently partnered with LePera seats and can now order all of their matching materials for bibs, bags, etc. to compliment your LePera custom seat!

So now that I’ve explained the new bib style, here are some pictures to show what is possible for the Softail Slim!

p.s. – this style will also work with the Heritage, Crossbones and Springer that use the teardrop dash console

Doing it right in Switzerland…Custom Harley Softail Slim

Posted in brown, Custom Stitching, Fender bibs, hand tooled, Handlebar bag, Harley Softail, Laser Engraving, leather, Motorcycles, Slim, Tank bib, Tooled Leather with tags , , , , , , , , , on July 21, 2015 by Chris Wright

A recurring client and now friend of mine in Switzerland came to me originally early this year for a custom leather tank bib to match his custom seat from a shop in New York.
This seat is something I had never seen before but I quickly recognized the color as saddle tan, a common color in horse saddles.  By itself, the seat looked lonely, a bit out of place with it’s bright golden tan color on a black bike.  We discussed the bib some and he decided to stick with the same shape as the factory bib but wanted his highly detailed family emblem on it.  Using a combination of laser engraving and hand tooling, I was able to recreate it in exacting detail, including the text on the banner.  Thick, white hand stitched edges were required to match the seat so I set to work.  Together they looked great but the backend needed something so Umberto sent another email, asking about a custom roll style bag to fit between his custom seat and custom fender.  I have to wonder how many parts on his Softail Slim are factory besides the engine and frame.  We agreed on a smallish, 4″ diameter x 10″ long back that would strap to the frame between the two parts with the buckles reversed so they wouldn’t touch the fender when the bag was opened.  His racing number was hand tooled on the flap and the crest laser engraved on the side caps to tie it all together.  Here are the pics, enjoy!

New bib in the Etsy shop!

Hey folks, I have a new inventory piece ready to ship out to the first one that grabs it! I had some extra time last week so to keep idle hands from causing trouble I made up this Harley tank bib. It is available in the Etsy shop and is ready to ship next day.  It is the usual high quality Herman Oak A grade saddlery leather with kangaroo edge lacing, both in black with the half-skull tooled into it.

This tank panel fits all Road Kings, Softails, Fatboys and Dynas with the 5″ wide square bottom dash.  The lower hole is punched to fit up to the late model tank bolts but it also has chrome eyelets and comes with 3′ of paracord to tie under the backbone for older models where the tank bolt location is different.  $85 plus shipping takes this one home so it won’t last long!

Here is a pic of the bib available and a couple of how this style bib looks on a few client bikes. Enjoy!
